I keep browsing among the Little Richard CDs available on CDNow (my main source for stuff), and today I saw a new CD which will be available in February. It has a red cover. Could this be the un-overdubbed Modern stuff that Phil has been promising us from Ace UK? Another question: while browsing, I came upon a CD in which Richard is depicted wearing a sweater and sitting at the piano. It has a subtitle---"the LT Series." It had samples available, so in I went. The songs are recuts of the Specialty stuff virtually note for note, but they sounded pretty good. Are these the Modern recordings? Whatever they were, they sounded better than the Modern ones I remember. One strange thing---the first cut, "Tutti Fruiti", has what sounds like thunder behind it, and some grunts and comments from some unknown (at least to me) source. Sounded like overdubs. Sample it and you'll see. How 'bout some help on these, o Richardites!!!

Any Little Richard Modern material from Ace will obviously have the titles you see in the site Wiki "Recording Sessions".
Re. note-for-note stuff: that's the remake session from Nashville in 1976. Should only be heard in stereo and played at a lower pitch.
Re. "Tutti Frutti" with background non-verbal utterances - hey, maybe it's from the Ace CD with the live renditions.
Sounds like you want to learn alot about Richard and his catalogue. I know the frustration of reading about, or hearing some magnificent performances, only to find they were never reissued even on vinyl! Tracks from Little Star, Mercury, Atlantic, Modern, Brunswick, Mainstream, etc., still wait in the wings for their CD debut. Imagine the reaction of Louis Armstrong or Elvis Presley fans who discover that dozens of cuts from their prime periods gather mold and mildew in some abandoned warehouse.
With all due respect, you may want to try Richard 101, before you go to Advanced.
I enjoy your Forum comments! Keep rockin' and soulin', Phil

Ace are definitely issuing the Modern stuff undubbed. But I know no more.

The red cover CD, for which play.com has the tune list, contains Heeby Jeebies, which, as far as I know, Richard never re-recorded. So, at this point it looks like Specialty stuff to me.

Curious as always, I went to Amazon UK again, and, as I suspected, the mysterious red cover CD is part of a series which includes, among others, Bo Diddley, Bill Haley, The Platters and the Righteous Bros. All coming out in February, as far as I can tell. Looks like the Modern stuff (un-overdubbed) will be on some other CD.

In the first entry in this thread, I referred to a CD I found on CDNow called "Long Tall Sally". It was wierd, because when I accessed the samples, it contained electronically overdubbed grunts, swishes and "sonic explosions" on "Tootie Frootie." Anyway, I got the CD (it's called the LT Series and features Richard in a cardigan sweater sitting at the piano) ----and, boy, is it awful! It uses the K-Tel '76 stuff as a bed for all kinds of electronic stupidity. I think it is trying to be a "remix" CD, but it is one terrible piece of work. Be warned---and be afraid.

Even with the effects, did they emphasize the drums so as to make it dance floor worthy? Sometimes these projects are successful in adding some "pop" to the original record.
On the other hand, the K-Tels/Audio Encores work best as stereo recreations - making the original instrumental aspect sound more "audible".

Edit of above for much improved syntax:
....original instrumentation more audible......
Thanks!

I'm starting to get interested in buying the CD. To my knowledge, there are only *two* such instances of '76 re-imagined, shall we say, tracks. Probably the "Send Me Some Lovin' 1978" is one of the '76 takes with strings and voices(?).
I believe there's a Madacy label collection with an extended "Tutti Frutti" - either the original or alternate K-Tel take.
